Deer Run Avenue Laneway Access

A Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) to address the local roadway servicing needs at the east end of Deer Run Avenue.

The following recommendation was approved by Town Council on September 19, 2016:

  • That the Deer Run Avenue Emergency Access Laneway Class Environmental Assessment Study, dated September 1, 2016, be received.
  • That staff be requested to review the sight lines for the safety of children crossing on Deer Run Avenue and Acacia Court.

Staff visited the intersection of Deer Run Avenue and Acacia Court in October 2016 to review the sightlines.

As a result:

  • Tree branches have were pruned to improve sightlines.
  • Staff found that an all-way stop is not warranted at this location. Traffic volumes and collision history do not meet the warrant thresholds.
  • Emergency vehicles can provide service to the subdivision through the existing roads.
  • Other municipal and regional services such as garbage collection and snow removal will also be accommodated on existing roads.

The EA process is now complete and no further action is expected. Deer Run Avenue will remain status quo as a temporary emergency access until it is extended as part of future land development.
