Nominations will be accepted for the offices of:
Nomination forms may be filed at the Town of Oakville Clerk’s department, 1225 Trafalgar Road, from May 2, 2022 to August 18, 2022, during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and on nomination day, August 19, 2022, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Appointment is required for filing. The term of elected office will be from November 15, 2022 to November 14, 2026.
Candidates who want to better understand the role of Council can register online for the “So you want to run for Council” virtual information session on April 11, 6:30 p.m.
Under Section 29(1) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, as amended, a person may be nominated for an office only if, as of the day the person is nominated:
a) he or she is qualified to hold that office under the Act that creates it; and
b) he or she is not ineligible under this or any other Act or otherwise prohibited by law to be nominated for or to hold the office.
Nomination and the declaration of qualification forms will be available in the Clerk’s department and on the town’s election website. The following must be provided at the time of submission:
A person may not accept contributions for election purposes, or incur expenses, until that person has filed a nomination paper with the Town Clerk.
Third party advertisers can also begin registering with the town starting May 2. A third party advertiser is any individual, corporation or trade union that advertises to support or oppose a candidate.
