We want to engage youth and provide opportunities for them to have a voice in our community. The Oakville Youth Action Committee (OYAC) is a dynamic group of local volunteers ages 13 to 19 with a mission to empower their peers and help shape the future of our town.

Why join OYAC?

Help us to foster positive experiences for Oakville youth while encouraging meaningful participation in recreation programs and events. As a member of this youth council, you have the ability to:

  • plan events and impact youth programming
  • help your community
  • represent your peers
  • meet new people
  • have fun and learn new skills
  • earn volunteer hours towards your high school diploma

OYAC typically meets at the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (QEPCCC) for two hours once per month.

Committee members may need to participate in more than one meeting per month depending on the specific events and programs.

The Oakville Youth Action Committee (OYAC) is a group of youth volunteers working to enhance their local community by encouraging meaningful youth participation in community recreation programs and events.

The Recreation and Culture department accepts youth volunteers into select children’s programs:

Volunteers interested in summer camp placements must complete the Learn to Lead course prior to the placement.

Volunteers interested in general program placements from September through to June can contact the recreation centre directly and ask to speak with the Recreation Coordinator or Recreation Assistant.
