Site Alteration Permit Exemptions

Some building activities do not require a Site Alteration Permit, provided no grading works are proposed.

The following building activities do not require a Site Alteration Permit, provided no grading works are proposed:

  • Second floor additions/renovations and/or roof changes
  • Demolition permits
  • Decks (using drilled supports/sono tubes)
  • Interior underpinning
  • Weeping tile installation/repairs
  • Foundation waterproofing
  • Municipal services – installation, repair/replacement
  • Basement walkouts
  • Fireplace/chimney additions
  • School portables

Please note that applications may still require additional permits based on the extent of works proposed. Permits may still be required for:

  • Works with the town’s right of way
  • Tree Protection Agreement
  • Temporary Street Occupation Permit (TSO)

All Town of Oakville By-Laws are enforceable regardless of issuance of permit. It is the applicant’s responsibility to review applicable by-Laws and abide by the restrictions. 

Site Alteration and Tree Removal applications are no longer being accepted for properties where a site plan or development engineering site plan (DESP) application has been made or will be made. Once Site Plan or DESP approval is obtained, approved works on the property can commence including: site alteration, grading, tree removals.
