Ward 6 is largely made up of residential subdivisions divided by Upper Middle Road, along which you’ll find several commercial activity centres to meet residents’ daily needs. Industry and commercial entertainment dominate the northeastern part of the ward, including movie theatres, restaurants, and other entertainment and recreation on the northeast corner of Upper Middle and Winston Churchill Boulevard.
Parkland and green spaces in this ward include Iroquois Shoreline Woods Park, Bayshire Woods Park, The Parkway as well as undeveloped land north of Dundas Street. In the southwesternmost corner of the ward, you can explore the trail through Morrison Valley, which runs south to Town Hall.
For much of the past two centuries, this ward was known for its agricultural lands, as well as the former settler villages of Postville (at Dundas Street and Trafalgar Road) and Snider (at Ninth Line and Burnhamthorpe Road).
The Town of Oakville was founded on the treaty lands and traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Ward 6 sits on Treaty 14 land which covers the majority of Oakville and beyond. This land was ceded to the crown in 1906 as part of the Head of the Lake Purchase which included land from Mississauga to Burlington.
