Ward 4

Established in 1805 at the intersection of Dundas Street and Bronte Road, the historic Palermo Village was originally called Hagerstown after its first known settler, Lawrence Hagar. Palermo was a bustling settlement and stagecoach stop that connected Toronto and Hamilton. 

Ward 4 now consists primarily of residential subdivisions, including Palermo Village, and is dotted by schools and parks and crisscrossed by creeks and trails. Residents can head to the southwest corner of the ward to tee off at Deerfield Golf Club, visit the Glen Abbey Community Centre, or cross Bronte Road to explore Bronte Creek Provincial Park.  

One of the benefits of living in this ward is its proximity to state-of-the-art healthcare facilities at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Located at Dundas Street and Third Line, the hospital is just outside of the ward boundary but is easily accessible from Ward 4. 

The Town of Oakville was founded on the treaty lands and traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Ward 4 sits on Treaty 14 land, which covers most of Oakville and beyond. This land was ceded to the crown in 1906 as part of the Head of the Lake Purchase which included land from Mississauga to Burlington.
