Zoning By-law Review (inZone)

Planning a new zoning by-law for the lands south of Dundas Street and north of Highway 407.

The purpose of the inZone project was to prepare a new zoning by-law for the lands south of Dundas Street and north of Highway 407 in conformity with the Livable Oakville Plan.

At the end of the inZone project, the passing of Zoning By-law 2014-014 was recommended to replace Zoning By-law 1984-63.

Livable Oakville Plan

The Livable Oakville Plan was approved by the Ontario Municipal Board on May 10, 2011. The Planning Act requires a municipality's zoning by-law to conform to its official plan.

On October 11, 2011, Planning and Development Council directed staff to begin work on the inZone project and received the terms of reference and work plan (pdf).

The new zoning by-law was developed through extensive research, analysis, review and consultation. The following items were prepared for the culminating Special Planning and Development Council meeting on February 25, 2014:

Zoning By-law 2014-014

Zoning By-law 2014-014 was passed by Council on February 25, 2014, and partially deemed in force by the Ontario Municipal Board on February 23, 2015.

Since then, additional sections of Zoning By-law 2014-014 have been deemed in force by the Board. Certain properties and regulations remain under appeal as identified in Zoning By-law 2014-014. On these matters, compliance with both Zoning By-law 1984-63 and Zoning By-law 2014-014 is required.
